What inspired you to become a board member of TFNU, and how have the trails and our community influenced your decision to take on this role?
Hiking our trails nearly every morning over the past 20 years, I feel deeply connected to our mountains. I know I am not alone in loving our trails, but because I am often hiking on my own, my love for these places has often felt solitary and even a little selfish. When construction began on the 27th Street Trailhead, I was forced to contend with the fact that I share these beautiful trails with people who have a variety of needs, wishes, and interests. Looking beyond myself, I am passionate about being a part of the decisions being made on behalf of our community and our trails both now and in the future. I am thrilled to be a part of TFNU.
Can you share about your background and personal story, including your experiences and favorite moments on the trails or in the outdoors? How have those experiences shaped your work on the board?
My husband, Adam, and I moved to Utah from Oregon for graduate school 32 years ago and never left! Our love for the mountains has been one of the main reasons we love living here in Ogden. We raised our children on the trails as we hiked, ran, snowshoed, x-country skied, identified birds, watched out for rattlesnakes, spied deer, smelled wild onions, and played at the pond together. Now that they have grown and flown, I mostly hike with my dog. Nina, who has been aptly described as an "instant party" by one of our favorite fellow hikers. Hiking the trails has brought so much joy, wonder, and connection to my life. My goal as a member of the TFNU board is to share my love for the trails with others as much as I can, working to increase access while ensuring our incredible trails are preserved and protected.
How long have you been part of the board?
