Sean Harwood moved to Ogden from Billings, Montana just in time to start school and has called Ogden home for 55 years. He graduated from Bonneville High School and Weber State University with a bachelor’s degree in Cartography. Sean began his career with the Forest Service in 1987 as a mapper and retired as the Ogden District Ranger in May 2025. His commitment to public lands and trails has made a lasting impact on the community.
Sean’s wife teaches at North Ridge High School, and together they have two grown children. In recognition of his dedication to trails and outdoor access, Sean was selected as the 2025 recipient of the Richard S. White Friend of the Trails Award, given annually by the Trails Foundation of Northern Utah to those who exemplify significant and lasting service for the region’s trail culture.
As part of the award, Sean chose to donate the $500 prize to Ogden Valley Adaptive, a nonprofit that removes barriers for people with disabilities through life-changing outdoor sports and recreation opportunities in Northern Utah.
