October Member Spotlight - Paul Baker

What inspired you to become a member of TFNU, and how have the trails and this community impacted your life or outdoor experiences?
I use trails frequently and thought it was only right to support TFNU (or Weber Pathways at the time). I also enjoy volunteering to build or maintain the trails. I am not a very social person, but the interactions with other trail users and volunteers lift me.

Can you share about your background and personal story, including your experiences and favorite moments on the trails?

I love the trails year round, but I especially love mountain biking on fall evenings at North Fork or Snow Basin. The colors are especially vibrant in the evenings! Some of my favorite times have been with my grandsons. Ezra was three when he first rode Trail 365 on his balance bike, and I had trouble keeping up with him on downhill sections. One morning a few years ago I went snowshoeing at North Fork. There had been a big snow storm the night before, and I was the first and only one on the trail. Pristine, hushed, unforgettable. When I was working in Salt Lake at the Department of Natural Resources, I frequently rode my bike along the Legacy Trail and a rail trail to or from work and take FrontRunner the other way. I miss doing that. I discovered there is a south breeze every morning while riding south to work and a north breeze every evening heading back. I though this was my imagination until another person told me the same thing.
